The Role
We're hiring a Data Engineer to own the data backbone of the platform.
You'll design the ETL pipelines that ingest, normalize, enrich, and aggregate our telemetry. You'll lead the next evolution of Signal Explorer — from data model through to served metrics. You'll define how we think about data contracts, metric definitions, and the boundary between batch and streaming. And you'll do it at a scale where doing things on-the-fly isn't an option.
What You'll Do
- Design and build ETL pipelines that pre-process, enrich, and aggregate telemetry on hourly, daily, and on-demand cadences.
- Lead the architectural revamp of Signal Explorer — from raw event ingestion through to the metrics surfaced to operators.
- Translate business KPIs into clean metric definitions and stable data contracts shared across product and engineering.
- Define data quality checks and surface anomalies in measurement coverage before customers do.
- Optimize for cost and scalability — pre-computed, efficient, predictable.
- Help define and document our measurement strategies (active, passive, periodic, remote speed test, octo-KPI, etc.) including parameters, units, examples, and reference tables.
- Plan toward GDPR-compliant data residency for our European deployments.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of data engineering experience working with high-volume event or telemetry data.
- Strong SQL and proficiency in at least one modern ETL framework (dbt, Airflow, Spark, or comparable).
- Experience designing metric / KPI frameworks and data contracts that hold up across teams.
- Comfort with cloud-native data infrastructure.
- Strong written communication — you'll be defining how the team thinks about data.
- Working English (the team and our clients operate in English and Spanish).
Nice to Have
- Background in telecom, network performance, IoT, or other event-heavy telemetry domains.
- Experience designing for GDPR-compliant architectures and EU data residency.
- Familiarity with Metabase or comparable BI tooling.
- Prior experience replacing legacy on-the-fly analytics with batch / incremental pipelines.
